美國和索馬利亞政府在11號證實，蓋達組織東非地區的首腦，穆罕默德已經在索馬利亞首都遭到擊斃；他曾因涉及策畫1998年，美國駐肯亞和坦尚尼亞大使館爆炸案，造成224人喪生，而被美國聯邦調查局列為恐怖分子追緝要犯，在追捕超過10年之後，終於將他制裁。
